Melbourne police officers responded to a retail theft Sunday afternoon that turned into a high-speed crash and chase.

Police say they received the call just before 1 p.m. Sunday that the suspects were attempting to return stolen merchandise to the Home Depot on North Wickham Road.

One suspect surrendered for arrest, while the second fled in a vehicle with a female passenger.

The vehicle was located a short time later on U.S. Route 1 near Sarno Road. A traffic stop was attempted, but the suspect refused to pull over.

Stop sticks were deployed ahead of the suspect, but he was able to swerve and avoid them, continuing southbound.

The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle in the 1400 block of US-1, crashing into a cacan wooded lot.

The driver, and suspect has been identified as Kyeon Rashad Roberson. Roberson was charged with felony retail theft, aggravated fleeing and driving on a revoked license. Police say he will face additional charges pending the blood results. Roberson was transported to a local hospitial for injuries sustained in the crash.

The suspect who stayed on the scene has been identified as Kelvin Collins, and was arrested for felony retail theft.

Roberson's female passenger was not charged, but was transported to the hospital.
