Just off of I-4 in what used to be a water retention pond and cow pastures, you'll discover a resort where relaxing is the main attraction at this inland oasis.
"It's really about water in Florida when you get away. It's a great place and a very tranquil environment,” boasts Kemp Gallineau, managing director of the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate.
"We're only 20 minutes away, but you just feel like you're on vacation and you just forget about everything,” said Lakeland resident Jean Rodriguez while floating in the family pool.
The Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate features an inland oasis with a zero entry pool, a cascading tower, water slide, volleyball, billiards and a few roaming amenities.
"Would you like a chilled towel?" asks one pool attendant while walking among the lounge chairs.
Moments later, the same attendant again makes the rounds and asks "Would you like a Popsicle?"
Amenities like these keeps Jean and her family coming back.
"We came out three times last summer,” she admits.
Jean enjoys the family pool, but the second pool at the Omni has her hooked.
"The flowers all around it. It's just really refreshing. And that is what really got us -- the lazy river," Jean said.
The sunken lazy river flows through a rainforest at a leisurely pace. If floating down this stream is too adventurous for you, head on over to the adult pool, where they promise you won't even miss the big game.
The third pool just off the golf course features cabanas with fans and televisions.
"When you look at the average length of stay when people travel away, it's two to three days. You have enough activities here with the family. It's something for everyone,” explains Kemp, the only man to be wearing a suit coat poolside.
Two golf courses designed by golf professional Greg Norman, a spa, a fire pit for s'mores, several restaurants and a children’s activity center round out the offerings.
"The restaurant is amazing. But the pool is what we really enjoy,” concludes Jean. "And we just don't want to leave."
