Calling all watermelon lovers!
May 21 is Watermelon Day in Volusia County.
A celebration will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Volusia County Farmers Market, located at 3050 E. New York Ave.
Brandi Harrison and Meagan Morgan, the national and Florida watermelon queens respectively, will welcome guests, along with J. Slice, the National Watermelon Promotion Board’s mascot.
Events include:
- 9 a.m.: parade of queens
- 9:30 a.m.: Kale cooking demonstration
- 10 a.m.: seed spitting contest
- 10:30 a.m.: watermelon-eating contest.
There will also be balloons and activities for children.
