The possible expansion of Lee Road in Winter Park is getting closer to becoming a reality.

The city and developers want to extend Lee Road east across 17-92 to possibly connect to Denning -- easing already tough traffic in the area, especially in the afternoons near Park Maitland School.

The City Commission met Monday afternoon for a work session to discuss some of the options of extending the road and how to make it better for residents and local businesses.

Last week, the commission heard input from the public on what they would like to see happen. Commissioners then took all the feedback into consideration on Monday.

Three different routes are proposed. The city wants Lee Road to extend half way to Denning, but then cut south to connect with Webster.

Local businesses said that would work the best for them, too.

"They can hit Webster and come into our business," said Greicy Ayala, who works near the proposed intersection,"versus having to go all the way up to make a U-turn, which is 17-92, as you know, is very busy. So I think it would be a benefit."

As for the price of the extension, the city said the developer will pay for the extension.

The extension to Lee Road will be considered again at the city's May 12 meeting.
