You’re right! As a tropical storm gets stronger, its central pressure gets lower, not higher.
A Category 1 hurricane's normal central pressure is around 980–994 millibars. The lowest pressure ever recorded in an Atlantic storm was 882 mb in Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
