A 54-year-old woman was killed Wednesday morning after a crash with a freight truck on State Road 471, in Sumter County, troopers said.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Kathy Cole, of Webster, was traveling northbound on SR-471 approaching Southeast 20th Lane around 10:48 a.m. She was preparing to make a right turn.
Lazaro Gazo, 52, of Clewiston, was also traveling northbound on SR-471 in a freight truck when he entered the southbound lane to overtake the victim making a right turn.
Cole may have aborted the right turn and attempted a left turn into a driveway off of SR-471, troopers said. The vehicles collided as Cole's vehicle changed course.
Cole was pronounced dead at the scene. Gazo wasn't injured.
