For the second consecutive year, the U.S. News and World Report rankings for the best high schools in the country means good news in Flagler County.

There may be larger districts in the state, but in Flagler, school leaders are ecstatic to see both of the high schools here honored by that report.

Matanzas High School earned a silver recognition and was ranked 75th among all high schools in Florida by the report. Meanwhile, Flagler Palm Coast High earned bronze recognition this year.

The schools were placed on the list for the first time last year, with both campuses earning silver medal recognition.

The rankings took into account reading and math scores as well as how the school’s least advantaged students performed in relation to similar students in the state.
