A Melbourne police officer has resigned after several women complained he approached them and asked for their phone numbers while he was on duty.

One of the women involved called her encounter with Officer Rey Munoz "creepy."

Investigators said a second incident involved another police officer's niece.

Police said dash cam video taken from Munoz's patrol car in February showed him driving through an LA Fitness parking lot. The car then stops, and a woman is seen walking by before Munoz gets her attention.

The woman told investigators Munoz asked her how old she was, told her she was beautiful and asked for her phone number. She said she told the officer she was "spoken for."

"Unfortunately, you do get occasions where someone comes through, that their conduct is not fitting of our mission and goal, and it was handled appropriately," said Melbourne police Sgt. Sheridan Shelley regarding Munoz's resignation.

Investigators said Munoz disabled his microphone, which is why the dash cam video is silent.

Melbourne police said Munoz was with the department for less than a year and was already on probation.

Munoz is also accused of approaching a woman at a nearby Walmart parking lot in December and asking for her phone number, all while he was on duty. That woman turned out to be the niece of a fellow officer. She filed a complaint, which resulted in the first disciplinary action against Munoz.
