Spring training is in full swing across Florida, but as the Washington Nationals take their cuts in Brevard County, something is flying over them -- a drone.

"This year, they went a different direction, and I've been flying this drone helicopter for different assignments," said drone operator Donald Miralle.

Miralle has been in charge of the team's media materials each year, like player photographs and videos.

The Nationals wouldn't allow us to show any video from the drone, as not to tip off their competition, but it certainly looks out of place at a ballpark.

The team is using the drone, called the Quad Copter, equipped with GoPro, to get overhead footage of the squad at Space Coast Stadium in Viera.

The drone will also be used for promotional videos and pictures in the Nationals stadium back in Washington.

"It's a cool thing, especially when the sun is out and there are shadows. What a cool angle," Miralle said.

Miralle has used the drone in other places, such as surfing competitions and triathlons. He said he hopes it catches on even more at other sporting events.

The Nationals said it will release some of the drone footage as part of promotional packages during spring training.
