The Florida Department of Health says its investigation of a pool at 24 Hour Fitness in Orlando determined the pool to be compliant with health guidelines.

A member claimed he got a bacterial infection after he swam in the gym’s swimming pool.

The location in question is the 24 Hour Fitness off Orange Avenue in the South Downtown neighborhood in Orlando, commonly referred to as SODO.

The man who filed the complaint said he now has bacterial infection on his leg that he believes he contracted from the gym’s swimming pool.

“Our Environmental office did receive a complaint. They are doing a complaint investigation on the pool. Their last routine inspection was 11/5/14. At the time the spa was satisfactory with no violations, but the inspector closed the pool for ‘no chlorine’,” revealed Mirna Chamorro, spokesperson for the Florida  Department of Health.

On Friday the Florida Department of  Health in Orange & Seminole Counties released the following statement about the results of their inspection:

The inspection report showed that at this time the pool was satisfactory. The chemicals in both pool and spa were within range. For now the complaint is deemed invalid or closed unless further complaints are received. Currently we have not received any other complaints regarding exposures to any bacteria at this facility. From the current complainant we have no further information regarding the type of bacteria he contracted or a confirmation from a doctor or lab results. Should any further complaints surface we will reopen the investigation.

We reached out to 24 Hour Fitness’ corporate office in California. A spokesperson told us each location has a certified pool operator for maintenance and gave us a statement that reads in part:

I have confirmed that there have been no reports of illness in connection with the Orlando Orange Super Sport.  A health inspector has tested the pool and confirmed that it is fine. Additionally, they closed the complaint as invalid.

The man said it’s been nearly two weeks now and he’s still taking antibiotics and steroids to clear up the rash.
