If you think it's usually packed in mall and department store parking lots on Saturdays, get ready for today. It's supposed to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Close to $10 billion is expected to be spent in just today alone, according to ShopperTrak. That’s why they are calling the Saturday before Christmas Super Saturday.

For the first time in a decade, Super Saturday is expected to be the busiest shopping day of the year.

There's plenty of reasons why you'll be shopping today, besides there being just five days before Christmas.

There are deals, like buy one get one free offers at plenty of stores.

There are even doorbusters today, similar to Black Friday.

Speaking of which, spending during the Thanksgiving weekend was down 11 percent this year. Much of the decrease was due to earlier deals in November and an increase in online shopping.

Before you head to the stores today, experts said do your research before you leave home.

“You want to make sure to do as much research as you can online by using the online ads and so make sure -- do your shopping, do your choosing ahead of time at home so that if you do need to go into a store, you know exactly what you want,” said Josh Elledge, the chief executive of SavingsAngel.com. “What you want to avoid is just milling about. Because that’s going to end up being a frustrating experience. So again, do your research at home. If you can shop at home, well that’s all the better to avoid the crowds.”

One of the other big reasons today is expected to be the number one sales day: there are still five full days to ship gifts.

Retailers are still desperate for the dollar, so expect deals and lots of free online shopping from some companies.

Just remember to take deep breaths and pack a lot of patience if you’re headed out to the stores.
