The search is on for a man who attempted to rob a Volusia County store on Friday night with a pellet gun, police said.

A man entered the Neighborhood Meat Market, located at 601 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., in Daytona Beach, around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The suspect brandished a weapon and demanded money. The clerk at the store then produced his own weapon and fired one round at the suspect inside the store, according to a police report.

The suspect ran out of the store. Meanwhile, the store owner's wife just pulled into the store's parking lot.

The suspect attempted to carjack the woman, and the clerk fired another shot at the suspect, police said.

The bullet hit the car door. The man dropped his weapon and was last seen running southbound from the store in the woods.

It's unknown if the suspect was hit, police said. No blood was found at the scene, and the gun the suspect had was as pellet gun, police said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Detective Ricky Ray, of the Daytona Beach Police Department, at 386-671-5231 or via email at rayf@dbpd.us.

The Daytona Beach Police Department is offering a $2,500 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
