Home prices continue to climb in Volusia County.
A new report shows prices in the area are rising faster than in any other county in Florida.
The reason for the surge is because the Orlando metropolitan area is expanding into areas like Volusia, according to Florida Realtors experts.
The price of homes in areas like Deltona, DeBary and Daytona Beach went up more than 20 percent in the third quarter of the year. In other areas of the state, home prices showed modest gains of about 5 percent compared to the same time last year.
John Tuccillo, the chief economist for Florida Realtors, said the technical reason for such a large increase over other counties is because Volusia is a relatively small county compared to others in the state.
Tuccillo said people looking for single-family homes want to live in small communities.
The median price of a home in Volusia is $152,000. Homeowners in the Orlando area, which include Orange, Lake, Seminole and Osceola counties, pay a median price of almost $180,000.
