A former Osceola County high school band director is accused of having sex with two of his students.

A man who worked as the band director at Poinciana High School has resigned

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office arrested Steven Velez, 25, Tuesday and charged him with two counts of Unlawful Sex with Certain Minors.

The investigation began on November 18 when deputies took a report from a 17-year old student at Poinciana High School who told deputies that when she was 16 she began receiving text messages from Velez, who at the time was the band director at the school.

Deputies said she told them she began going over to his house and they eventually began a sexual relationship.

The Sheriff’s Office said the student found out Velez also has a sexual relationship with another 17-year old student at the school and detectives confirmed there was a second victim.

Velez was brought in for questioning and investigators said he cooperated with them.  He was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail. Velez resigned his position with the school district last week.
