A family is in mourning tonight after a seventeen year old was shot and killed in Orange County.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Jose Altamirano was pronounced dead at the scene at North Powers Drive and Livingston Street on Sunday night.

Investigators add they have interviewed all involved parties—including the shooter. At this point, no one has been charged.

We talked to one man who lives near the scene.  Andre Demps said he heard the shots and saw the 17-year-old as he gasped his last breath.

“For me to come outside and just get my phone and then hear gunshots…I never saw anyone breathe three to four times maximum and then don’t breathe no more.  I never saw anything like that,” said Demps.

Demps added the shooting “hits home” because he has a 13-year-old son.

Jeff Williamson with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office will not release any more details about what might have led to the fatal shooting, but he did say the shooter and the 17-year-old who died, “were known to each other.”

“Everyone involved has been questioned," Williamson said. "So this case right now is going to be turned over to the state attorney’s office for review. The other person involved in this case at this particular point is not being charged, but we’ll see what the state has to say once they review the case.”

Then, nearly three hours later, deputies were called to the Alta Westgate Apartments off North Hiawassee Road near Silver Star Road.

The man was found lying in the parking lot around 9:40 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies are asking for anyone who knows anything about this shooting to call them.

They have not given any indication that these two cases are connected.

Information on what led to either shooting has not yet been released.
