A plan to ban drinking on a Brevard County beach may be going nowhere.

Cocoa Beach leaders are looking at ways to curb rowdy behavior at a popular beach.

Commissioners even considered a ban on alcohol at the beach at the end of the Minutemen Causeway.

But after backlash from the community, leaders are going in a different direction.

Instead, a dozen businesses have agreed to form a business crime watch group.

The goal is to alert police to a situation as soon as the group sees it.

Because trash has been a problem on the beach, city leaders are also considering a ban on Styrofoam products on the beach.
