Hundreds of people traveling to Orlando were stopped at Orlando International Airport Sunday night after a suspicious bag was left in a terminal. Fortunately, it was just someone's forgotten luggage, but the hours it left some travelers waiting caused quite a bit of frustration.

People were picking up their displaced bags after the bag that was left behind kept people from gathering their luggage and leaving for their families. It's something that happened during one of the busiest times of the year at Orlando International Airport.

"(There were) police cars and, of course, (Transportation Security Administration) security," said Karen McLain, who was coming home to Orlando.

Crime scene tape, K-9 units and a bomb squad greeted hundreds of people flying into the airport. Baggage claim was disrupted for about an hour.

Not only was the delay frustrating for those waiting, but the airport was packed with people who were confused as to what was happening. The weekend before Thanksgiving is typically one of the busiest times of the year.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the airport will see about 1.3 million travelers. Despite delays Sunday, some said they would still prefer to fly.

"It's still better than driving," said Daniel Halsey, who is visiting from Indianapolis. "I mean, we are coming from Indianapolis, and it's a 16-hour drive."

AAA expects about 3.55 million people to fly this holiday season. But as gas prices continue to drop to the lowest in about five years, about 89 percent of travelers will hit the road this year instead of the air.

Despite the delays Sunday night, officials at Orlando International Airport said they are hopeful things will run more smoothly throughout the rest of the week.
