Florida's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6 percent in October, which is just below the September rate of 6.1 percent, according to numbers released Friday by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

The jobless rate is down 0.7 percent from October 2013, and the state's October rate was the lowest since June 2008, when it was also 6 percent.

There were 578,000 jobless Floridians. The U.S. unemployment rate was 5.8 percent in October. Florida's unemployment rate has been equal to or below the national rate for 14 of the last 18 months.

The Central Florida region of Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Sumter counties was 5.4 percent for October, down 0.8 percent from the same time frame a year ago.

Flagler County continues to have the second highest unemployment rate in the state, at 8.2 percent. Seminole County, at 5.0 percent, had the lowest rate in the Central Florida area.
