A 17-year-old is facing charges after he allegedly stole a car and crashed it several times in Volusia County.

It happened Monday at an apartment complex on the 2100 block of South Palmetto Avenue.

Police said the driver left the 2014 Kia running while unloading his groceries.

When he walked outside for more items, he noticed an unknown male jump into the car and locked the doors.

Police said the teen put the car in drive and jumped the curb, slamming into the front wall of the owner’s apartment.

The teen then shifted into reverse, hopping over more parking curbs and slamming into the apartment building behind him.

As the teen then exited the parking lot, he hit several heavy duty poles protecting a Florida Power and Light power box.

The car flipped onto its side, trapping the teen inside.

Police and fire rescue crews had to break the windshield to remove the teen, who was uninjured.

The 17-year-old was charged with grand theft auto and not having a driver’s license.

Police said the vehicle and buildings received minor damage.
