Many Lake County residents will one day have a quicker way to get to Orlando.

Tuesday, Lake County Commissioners approved more than $8 million to extend Hancock Road, which is also known as Turkey Farm Road, in Minneola to a new Florida’s Turnpike interchange.

Within the area, a new development is beginning construction. Lake Minneola High School is also in the vicinity.

“One of our biggest concerns is getting traffic in and out of high school and also pedestrian traffic in and out of schools and we’ve made a big emphasis to contractor, along with design, to make sure there is a safe passage to school during construction,” said Jim Stivender from Lake County Public Works.

Construction will begin immediately and the county hopes to have the road done in 18 months.

The Turnpike interchange should be complete shortly after that.
