A failed motor will force the Main Street Bridge in Daytona Beach to close for about a week for repairs, officials said Thursday.

The bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic beginning Friday, Oct. 24, said Judy Grim, Volusia County's road and bridge division director.

The 50-year-old drawbridge over the Halifax River has been operated in manual mode since Friday, Oct. 17. The bridge is expected to reopen Friday, Oct. 31.

Motorists are advised to use the bridges at Seabreeze Avenue and International Speedway Boulevard.

Detour signs will be posted with alternative routes around the closure site, officials said.
