Maryland authorities dropped grand theft auto charges on Joshua Ortiz Thursday. Now Seminole County deputies can more easily extradite him back to Florida to face murder charges.

Ortiz, 20, was charged with second-degree murder charges for the death of his mother in her Seminole County home.

Jacqueline Ortiz, 45, was found dead in her home off Woodley Park Place Sunday.

Maryland State Police arrested him after he was pulled over on I-95 outside of Baltimore driving his mother's Mustang convertible.  He was charged with grand theft auto.

The state dropped the charges because if they did not Seminole County deputies would have to wait until after that case was dealt with in order to try him on the murder charge.

Wednesday, investigators from the Seminole County Sheriffs Office traveled to Maryland to question Ortiz. They did not release any details about what Ortiz told them, but it was enough for them to charge him with second-degree murder for killing his mother.

Investigators have not said how she died, but police records show she and Joshua had a violent past. He had stolen her car as recently as August and when he was 15, he was arrested for domestic violence against her.
