State Attorney Jeff Ashton will appeal a judge's decision to drop the charge against former state Rep. Chris Dorworth in the former Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority bribery case.

Dorworth was charged with violating the Sunshine Law, a misdemeanor.

Prosecutors accused the former state representative of meeting in secret to oust then Expressway Authority Board Chairman Max Crumit. Investigators said Dorworth was working with former vice-chair Scott Batterson.

Batterson pled no contest to violating Sunshine Law and was also convicted on felony bribery charges last week.

In a statement, Ashton said he "respectfully disagrees" with the court's ruling. Ashton said part of the problem is there is a lack of legal opinion on the issue. That is why Ashton wants to appeal the decision.

There is no word yet on exactly why the judge in the case dismissed the charge against Dorworth.
