Two Volusia County children and their father are dead following a murder-suicide at their home. A third child who was shot is in stable condition.

It happened around 5 a.m. Friday along Jackson Lane inside the Spruce Creek Farms subdivision.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said it started as a domestic argument between David Mohney, 52, and his wife, 48-year-old Cynthia Mohney. She fled to a neighbor's house, saying he threatened her with a gun.

A short time later, gunshots rang out.

Deputies said Mohney shot his children, Lauren Mohney, 9, David Mohney, 11, and 14-year-old Savanna Mohney.

According to investigators, Mohney's daughters were upstairs in a bedroom together, his son was in a bedroom on the first floor by himself, and Mohney was found in the kitchen.

David was pronounced dead at the scene. Mohney and his daughter Savanna were transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach where they were both pronounced dead.

Lauren is in stable condition at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.

Sheriff Ben Johnson said domestic violence reports have been filed within the family and an injunction was lifted back in June.

According to documents, Mohney  -- a stay at home dad -- filed for divorce saying he wanted to leave his wife and move their family to South Dakota. Court filings show Mohney filed for divorce from his wife Cynthia in May. He stated that she opposed his plans to move their children to Rapid City, South Dakota.

Then in June, Mohney sought a protective injunction, saying his wife was drinking heavily and physically abusing him and the children. Two weeks later, he dropped the injunction.

Mohney's wife was interviewed at the operations center following the shooting.

The Volusia County School District says Lauren attends Cypress Creek Elementary, David attended Creekside Middle School, and Savanna attended Spruce Creek High School. The district says they notified parents of students at all three schools of the shootings and have crisis teams at each of the schools Friday and again on Tuesday to assist students in dealing with the situation.
