A man police had a warrant to arrest caused a fatal wrong-way crash Wednesday as he allegedly tried to flee police.

Hilly Hill Police Dept. said it had a warrant and was trying to arrest Christopher Hammonds, 40, at a business on Ridgewood Avenue. When Hammonds saw the approaching officers, police said he drove off, fleeing southbound on Ridgewood.

The vehicle lost control after the Flomich Street intersection, colliding with a pick-up truck in the northbound lanes of Ridgewood Avenue.

Hammonds and passenger Brandi Machel were taken to Halifax Medical Center. Machel died at the hospital from her injuries. Hammonds is in stable condition. The driver of the pick-up truck was also taken to the hospital by his wife.
