Classes are cancelled Friday on the Palm Bay campus of Eastern Florida State College after a shooting in a parking lot Thursday sent two people to the hospital, including the shooter.

Police said the shooter, 24-year-old Landrick Hamilton, claims he was acting in self-defense.

Neither he nor the two other men involved have been charged. The State Attorney’s Office will decide if any of the three men will face criminal charges.

Palm Bay Police said Hamilton was approached by two men who pulled up to him in the school’s parking lot.

Investigators said Amado Contreras and Landyer Contreras started attacking Hamilton with a pool cue. That’s when, according to police, Hamilton reached into his car, pulled out a handgun and shot Amado Contreras in the chest.

"I saw one guy standing up, in the doorway, and he was stomping and kicking the guy behind the driver's side," said witness Charles Andrews. "Then I heard 'pow' -- gunshot and I grabbed other students and told them to get under cover."

Everyone is expected to recover from their injuries.

The Contreras brothers did not attend school but the college said Hamilton is a full time student, studying chemical technology.

The school said Hamilton has no history of disciplinary problems.

All three are claiming they acted in self-defense.

Classes on the Palm Bay Campus, including UCF courses taught on the campus, will resume Monday morning.  The school said counselors will be at the school.
