Talk about timing. Some Melbourne firefighters in the right place at the right time to help a dog near death.

'Timon' is a four year old Black Mouth Cur Mix. He's got tons of energy, and is very gentle and playful.

This is what he looks like now after two weeks of recovery.

"He was really bad. I mean, he was real thin and you could see every bit of ribs on him," said firefighter Keith Maxwell of the Melbourne Fire Department.

The day was January 4. Maxwell and his fellow firefighters had just wrapped up a call. Timon wandered up to him in the street and collapsed. Maxwell said the poor pup was on his last leg.

The fire crew gently scooped him up and took him to the fire station. They gave the emaciated dog water, warmed him up and then drove him to the South Brevard County shelter.

His temperature was 10 degrees below normal and he was severely dehydrated. "He weighed about 36 pounds when he got to the facility," said Mary Thompson of Brevard Animal Services.

But if you look at Timon today, he's gained 14 pounds and has made a full recovery in just a couple weeks.

"We hope it goes to a loving, energetic home," said Maxwell.

Thanks to some firefighters will big hearts, he's waiting to be adopted.

Timon is part of an SPCA super adoption event coming up this weekend in Melbourne.

Brevard Community Mega Adoptions, will turn the Azan Shrine Center in Melbourne into the Love Shack. The goal is to find homes for more than 350 dogs and cats.

The event will include SPCA of Brevard, Brevard County Animal Services, Brevard ASAP, Hope for Brevard, the Central Brevard Humane Society and Space Coast Feline Network.

The doors will be open this Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm. The adoption fee for all cats and dogs is just $25.
