Rachel Jeantel, the so-called "Witness 8," was supposed to be the state's "star witness."
Jeantel was Trayvon Martin's friend, and claims to have been on the phone with him the night he was shot by George Zimmerman.
But after nearly seven hours of questioning, our legal analyst, David Jancha, believes Jeantel may have been more beneficial for the defense.
"There appears to be issues with inconsistency in her statements and making assumptions about what took place," Jancha said. "I think she was there for the right reason to be supportive and a witness as to what she heard, but I think through cross examination, she was a more effective witness for the defense."
As week 3 of the trial comes to an end, we've now heard 15 witnesses in four days of testimony. Both sides have had some slip-ups, from knock-knock jokes to weak witnesses.
"I think the state is doing a great job, they're moving forward, they're following their timeline just as I would anticipate they would," Jancha said. "But I think the defense is also doing a great job through cross-examination and trying to establish what they will potentially try to prove if George Zimmerman decides to testify."
It's unclear at this point if Zimmerman will ever take the stand.
