It seemed too good to be true -- Delta Airlines giving their website users a post-Christmas gift of flying cross-country for under $50 dollars round trip.

A glitch with Delta airlines reservation system Thursday morning resulted in some people getting very cheap airfares.

The unbelievable fares left some travelers astonished.

"I'm still shaking," said Natalie Walker, an Orlando paralegal who was able to grab a deal.

Some flights listed:

  • Roundtrip Orlando to the west coast: $50.
  • Roundtrip Orlando to Hawaii: $75.

Walker saw a message on Facebook.

"I immediately jumped online and started searching to see what I could find," she said.

News spread fast.

By 11:40 a.m.Thursday, Walker’s flight to Hawaii, a honeymoon of sorts for her and her fiancé, was confirmed.

"In total with taxes and fees, it's $138 for two flights," Walker said.

Some took to Twitter before noon to share their great deal.

“CHRISTMAS MIRACLE ALERT: Just bought a round trip ticket from Charlotte to LA for $46. Thanks #delta.”

“Just bought a round-trip flight home with #Delta for $85…..MY DAY IS MADE!”

Some were left in the cold.

“I was one of those people who was looking for #flights right when the #Delta glitch happened but couldn’t book a ticket/search 4anything.”

By noon, the low fares were gone.

Delta.com and other sites, like Expedia, would display the low fares, but when you went to pay, the websites stopped loading. Walker almost missed out.

"It gave me an error and said your flight was not completed, there's been an error," she explained.

During a second attempt, she landed the deal of the year.

By early afternoon, Delta issued a statement:

“For a portion of the morning today, some prices on delta.com and other booking channels were incorrectly displayed, resulting in lower than usual fares for customers. The situation has been resolved and the correct prices are being displayed. Delta will honor any fares purchased at the incorrect price.”

For others who tried and failed, Walker said good things come to those who wait.

"Every once and awhile you'll find one. It's a double rainbow all the way. It will happen," she said.

Delta has not said how the glitch happened or how many folks managed to take advantage.
