A central Florida father was arrested Thursday night after deputies said he left his baby alone in a car while he was shopping. It happened outside the Best Buy in Waterford Lakes.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said an off duty Florida Highway Patrol trooper saw the two-month-old asleep in a car seat in the back of a locked car.
FHP said the trooper went to the shoppers in line and made an announcement to locate the owner of the vehicle. No one came forward so after a few minutes the trooper broke the window and got the infant boy out of the vehicle. An ambulance was called to the scene because FHP said the baby appeared lethargic.

A short time later troopers said Haider Darwash, 34, returned to the car and identified himself as the father.

Darwash told the trooper he thought his wife was taking care of their son. She was later found standing in line at a business in the Waterford Lakes Town Center.

Darwash was charged with Felony Child Neglect and transported to the Orange County Jail where he later bonded out.
