The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a van and a pickup truck in Osceola County.

It happened around 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Reaves Road, near Poinciana.

According to investigators who talked to witnesses, the passenger van, driven by 73-year-old Rinaldo Piccinelli, was trying to turn left onto Reaves Road as the traffic light turned yellow, when it was hit by the pickup truck, driven by 41-year-old Lazaro Yut, with a trailer full of oranges.

FHP said 10 people were taken to five different hospitals, including a 5-year-old boy they said was thrown from the van.

Investigators said one child with injuries was flown by helicopter to a hospital.

“Nurses at Arnold Palmer say the boy is in stable condition. He’s already sitting up and talking,” said Sergeant Kim Montes.

The Osceola County Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The van has Academy of Martial Arts and Fitness written on the side.

News 13 stopped by their office, but an employee in the building would only say “no comment.”

A third vehicle hit some of the wreckage, troopers said, but only had minor damage.

A spokesperson for FHP said Piccinelli has been charged with violation of right of way.

Montes says Piccinelli’s driving record is mostly clean. She says his last ticket on record was from 1990.
