An Orange County man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife who was pregnant with twin boys. One of the boys died and the other is fighting for his life in the hospital.

The shooting happened Thursday evening at the family's house on Nikki Court, off Pershing Avenue west of Goldenrod Road.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Michael Boyce, 33, originally told deputies his wife, Alexis, committed suicide.

Alexis, 24, was eight months pregnant with twin boys. She and one of the boys were pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center. The  other is in intensive care at Winnie Palmer Children's Hospital.

During an interview with police, Boyce said Alexis was depressed over money and really did not want to have the children and continued to infer that his wife committed suicide.

He explained that his wife wanted to see his handgun. Police said even though Boyce said his wife was depressed, he gave the handgun to her.

Investigators said Boyce told them Alexis had the handgun in her left hand when she committed suicide, which they said is in total contradiction from his previous statement to the on-scene deputies.

After being confronted with evidence from the scene by police, investigators said Boyce changed his story and said it was an accident but could not explain why he pointed the handgun and killed his wife.

Boyce was arrested and charged with first-degree murder with a Firearm.

The couple lived with Alexis’s parents who were home at the time and heard the gunshot but told deputies they did not see the shooting happen.

Boyce is a former military police officer of five years. He is also currently working as an armed security guard.

Boyce may be charged with an additional count of homicide pending additional testimony from a medical doctor concerning the viability of the fetus.
