A man is under arrest after Volusia County deputies said he was driving under the influence with a young child in the car.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, deputies said they were called to a home on the 300 block of Dolores Boulevard in reference to a stolen vehicle.

A woman told deputies she arrived home around 7:15 p.m. and found her 2006 Ford F-150 missing from her driveway.

She said her boyfriend, 43-year-old Eric Keddy, was watching her son and did not have permission to take the truck, nor a valid driver’s license.

During the investigation, Keddy arrived at the home in the truck.

Keddy told deputies “arrest me, I’m drunk” upon exiting the vehicle.

The 3-year-old boy was found crying in the backseat. Deputies said the boy was not in a child safety seat.

Keddy admitted to deputies he went to Daytona Beach to smoke crack cocaine with his friends. He said the boy took a nap on the couch while he smoked.

Seven open cans of beer were found inside the truck, along with one in the cup holder.

Keddy was charged with driving under the influence, grand theft of a motor vehicle, child abuse and driving under a suspended license.

He remains in the Volusia County Jail on $6,000 bond.
