A suspect is in custody in the burglary of a Brevard County drug store early Monday morning after police said he fell through the drive-thru hatch down to where officers were standing below.

It happened at the CVS Pharmacy located at 3050 N. Wickham Rd. in Melbourne just before 1:30 a.m.

Melbourne Police said officers were patrolling the area when they heard an alarm coming from the store. When they arrived, officers could see that the pharmacy ceiling tiles had been moved.

Investigators said while officers were waiting for the K-9 officer, the suspect fell through the drive-thru hatch and onto the officers below.

Police arrested Alex McBride, 28, and said he was wearing gloves, a ski mask and was carrying a bag of tools and prescription pills.

He was arrested and charged with:

  • Burglary unoccupied dwelling unarmed
  • Burglary tools-possession with intent to use
