Newly enhanced video released by the Sanford Police Department may show that George Zimmerman was injured the night he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

The higher-quality video surfaced Monday, showing in greater detail Zimmerman in handcuffs being taken in for questioning after the shooting.

The original version of the video released by Sanford police was grainy, and did not clearly show any injuries on the back of Zimmerman's head, which seemed to contradict what he said in a leaked police report.

The new, clearer video, however, shows a possible cut on the back of Zimmerman's head.

Zimmerman told investigators that Trayvon Martin attacked him and slammed his head into the ground multiple times before he fired the shot that killed the teen.

State attorney fights back

State Attorney Norm Wolfinger said he is outraged over new accusations against him and his office surrounding the investigation into Trayvon Martin's death.

Monday, Martin's family asked the U.S. Department of Justice to review an alleged meeting between Wolfinger and Sanford police Chief Bill Lee the night of the shooting.

Martin's parents claimed the two overruled a homicide investigator's recommendation that George Zimmerman be charged with manslaughter.

"We don't get anything from his office or the police department, so these folks have been left out in the cold, when it's them who should get all the information about why Mr. Zimmerman is still free for killing their son," said attorney Benjamin Crump, representing Martin's parents. "We're going to keep writing letters and asking people to investigate anything that is suspicious in this death, because they deserve answers. This family only wants answers."

In response, Wolfinger issued the following statement Monday:

"I am outraged by the outright lies contained in the letter by Benjamin Crump to Deputy Assistant Attorney General Roy Austin dated April 2, 2012.  I encourage the Justice Department to investigate and document that no such meeting or communication occurred. I have been encouraging those spreading the irresponsible rhetoric to stop and allow State Attorney Angela Corey to complete her work.  Another falsehood distributed to the media does nothing to forward that process."
