The parents of Trayvon Martin and U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown addressed the House Judiciary Committee on racial profiling and hate crimes Tuesday afternoon.

They spoke as part of a forum scheduled by Brown. Congressional Democrats held the forum as a result of the Trayvon case, which has captured the nation's attention.

Rep. Brown, the Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump and Rep. Frederica Wilson also spoke on the case.

Wilson said George Zimmerman should be arrested "for his own safety."

Trayvon's mother, Sybrina Fulton, thanked everyone for their attention on this case.

"Trayvon was our son, but Trayvon is your son. A lot of people can relate to our situation. It breaks their hearts, just like it breaks mine," Fulton said.

Crump said if there were more laws and a better understanding on racial profiling, the deadly shooting would never have happened. He said Trayvon is dead because he was racially profiled.
