The woman accused of setting a fire that burned one of the oldest trees in the world to the ground has been released from jail.

Sara Barnes posted bond Wednesday. The 26-year-old was arrested the day before for setting fire to "The Senator" in Longwood's Big Tree Park.

Detectives said Barnes, of Winter Park, admitted to starting the fire that ultimately destroyed the 125-foot bald cypress tree in January.

At roughly 3,500 years old, "The Senator" was believed to be the world's fifth oldest tree, and the oldest of its kind in North America. It was named for Sen. Moses Overstreet, who donated the land to Seminole County in 1927.
