A judge has ruled that Casey Anthony’s civil trial will be delayed.

Lawyers on both sides went before a judge today at the Orange County Courthouse. The judge did not set a new date for the trial.

Lawyers for Zenaida Gonzalez wanted to get their civil trial against Casey pushed back until after Casey’s criminal appeal is heard.

Casey was found not guilty in the death of her daughter, Caylee, in 2008 but she was convicted of lying to police. Her lawyers are trying get that conviction appealed.

Casey has used the Fifth Amendment to avoid questions from Gonzalez's lawyers, which she has the right to do to avoid incriminating herself.

Casey’s lawyer said he didn’t want to jeopardize her appeal. So, Gonzalez's lawyers said they are willing to wait until that appeal is heard, so she would likely be able to answer questions.

Gonzalez is suing Anthony for defamation after Casey told police that a woman named “Zenaida Gonzalez” kidnapped her daughter. It was a lie that Gonzalez has said has turned her life upside down.
