A giant former sinkhole in Windermere has settled, but left a crater in the backyard of the home where it began.

In May, a nearly 100 feet wide and 50 feet deep sinkhole swallowed much of the backyard and trees of a Windermere home.

The family renting that home at the time has moved out.

In June, crews filled the sinkhole, but Sunday afternoon Orange County fire crews were alerted by neighbors of a crater in the backyard.

“I have two kids and I don’t know what to expect because if the hole is going to grow, who knows, maybe we’ll have sink activity here in my house” said Oxana Korotetski, who lives two houses down in the Summerport subdivision.

“I asked my husband ‘what is going on?’ and it seems to me that this activity is just going on again.”

Many neighbors shared in the unease of what happened and are keeping a close eye on Mother Nature’s sudden shift, while others are taking it in stride.

“At first I thought it was kind of serious because I thought the house might go down and maybe more might start forming, but they say it stopped, so I stopped really caring about it after that” said Julian Jacobs.

The Orange County Fire Department tells News 13 the Road and Drainage Department will visit the site in the next couple of days to assess the settling.

We checked with our Severe Weather Experts, who say this type of ground settling is normal after a sinkhole of that size opens.
