Bradenton Police are investigating an alleged incident between two Manatee County School Board members.

  • Scott Hopes, Dave Miner at odds over what happened after meeting
  • Police confirm they are looking into Feb. 27 surveillance video
  • Formal report was filed Wednesday in Manatee County

The board's chairman, Scott Hopes, claims that a fellow board member, Dave Miner, tried to hit him with his car following a school board meeting on Feb. 27.

It was all caught on video.

Both Hopes and Miner admit they got into a disagreement during the school board meeting earlier that evening. Following the meeting, the two exchanged harsh words in the parking lot.

Moments later, the video shows Miner getting into his vehicle and backing away. The two continue speaking through Miner's drivers side window.

But it's when Miner drives his car forward that the two see the situation differently.

"He proceeded to attempt to run me over, and I ran away from the front of his car," Hopes said.

But Miner said: "I welcome a police investigation, which I think when it all is looked at carefully will reveal that I didn't do anything criminal. I didn't do anything wrong."

Hopes says an officer was on site in the parking lot of the school support center at the time of the incident. He says he spoke with that officer on the night of Feb. 27, though no formal report was filed until the afternoon of March 7.

Police confirm they're reviewing the video and speaking with all parties involved.

The school district is not commenting on the matter.
