Officials said Tracy Evereth Wood, 31, and Miriam Marti-Benning, 43, were located in a wooded area near I-75 and Wesley Chapel Boulevard in Pasco County. They were arrested without incident.

On March 17, Wood and Marti-Benning fled on foot after striking Felix De la Uz, 80, after the white Honda Civic Wood was driving left the roadway. According to investigators, De la Uz pushed his wife out of the way of the oncoming vehicle before he was struck, and died at the scene.

After their arrest, Marti-Benning reportedly told investigators that following their flight from the scene she and Wood called a friend to pick them up and transport them from the area. They stayed in a hotel overnight, then fled to Pasco County and had been hiding in the woods since.

Marti-Benning also told investigators that she was in possession of the vehicle and let Wood drive, and she'd been made aware that she and Wood had killed De la Uz, and she continued to help Wood remain hidden from police.

Witnesses identified Wood as the driver of the vehicle. Police said according to DHSMV records, he had never been issued a driver's license.

Wood has been charged with hit and run, failure to remain at a crash involving death and driving without a license and causing death/serious injury with a vehicle.

Marti-Benning was charged with hit and run, failure to remain at a crash involving death, and aiding and abetting the commission of a crime.
