Tampa Police are looking for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Hillsborough Avenue.

  • Pedestrian fatally struck in hit-and-run
  • Honda Civic left the roadway, hitting sign and man
  • Occupants abandoned vehicle and fled the scene

Officers responed to the 4000 block of West Hillsborough Avenue at about 12:20 p.m. When they arrived, they found 80-year-old Felix De la Uz dead.

Witnesses told police that a white Honda Civic left the roadway, hitting a sign and electrical box, before striking De la Uz. Witnesses also told police that De la Uz pushed his wife Narda Vazquez Ruiz out of the way before he was hit. 

The Honda Civic came to a stop 500 feet away and the occupants fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. 

They were captured on surveillance walking between businesses near the scene.

The male driver is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall. He was wearing a white tank top, dark shorts and dark shoes. The female passenger is 5 feet 4 inches tall and was last seen wearing a green shirt and jeans.

Officers are asking for the public's help identifying the suspects.
