Haines City investigators are looking for a shooting suspect they consider armed and dangerous.

  • Police search for Haines City murder suspect
  • Maclovio Salas, 38, is accused of shooting, killing woman
  • Children were home at the time of the shooting

According to a news release, officers responded to 321 North 18 Street just before 1 a.m. March 17 in reference to a shooting.

“We received a 911 from a frantic child indicating their mom was hurt,” Haines City Police Chief Jim Elensky said.

Elensky said officers arrived and found Rocio Mozqueda, 37, outside the home with a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Maclovio Salas. Elensky said Salas and Mozqueda had three children together and were in an on-and-off relationship.

The children were inside the home when the shooting happened.

“As if this isn’t already horrific enough, the children were exposed to the scene with massive amounts of blood,” said Elensky. “They watched their mother die in cold blood.”

Elensky believes the suspect was drunk at the time, and arguing with the victim before the shooting.

Investigators believe Salas is possibly driving a black Toyota Camry with the Florida license plate number 1075VU, which is registered to his sister. Salas is considered armed and dangerous.
