The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating why a vehicle with three people inside went into a pond in a Wesley Chapel park Monday evening.

Officials said around 8:26 p.m. the Pasco Sheriff's Office received a call about a vehicle in the water at Wesley Chapel District Park. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies jumped into the water to assist the people in the vehicle.

Investigators believe the driver of the vehicle had some sort of seizure and drove into the park pond. Two adult passengers, a man and a woman, were able to extricate themselves from the vehicle.

The driver, however, was trapped and was in the water for a length of time, according to deputies. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. 

The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the ongoing investigation.
