Where Tiger Woods goes, the fans follow.

  • 'Tiger Woods Effect' takes over Palm Harbor
  • Thousands of fans are in town for Valspar Championship
  • Local businesses are feeling the boost

On the third day of the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, thousands of fans lined the first hole for a chance to snap a photo of Woods walking down the fairway.

He's drawing a record breaking crowd.

Last year was a record-setting one for the tournament with about 112,000 fans. But this year, Valspar officials say they're going to top 150,000.

With so many golf enthusiasts in town, both Palm Harbor and nearby Tarpon Springs are feeling the effects.

"Bumper to bumper traffic, and just people driving crazy, but it's brought excitement," Tarpon Springs resident Walter Singletary said.

On-site parking has been sold out each day of the tournament, leaving many to pay for off-site parking at about $40 a day.

But the thousands of people walking through the area has brought a welcomed boost for restaurants like popular breakfast spot Johnny Grits.

The restaurant increased staffing for the weekend, knowing it would be a busy one.

"This is our favorite time of the year," employee Melissa Allen said. "We really look forward to it.

Sunday is the final day of the tournament, and is also expected to be the busiest.
