  • Death of Johnny Amons doesn't appear suspicious

Johnny Mack Amons, 59, was in a holding area of the medical facility "awaiting classification" when he was found unresponsive, the Pinellas Sheriff's Office said Monday.

Detention and medical staff administered CPR on Amons, but he was pronounced dead just before 6:28 p.m. by Largo Fire Rescue.

There were no obvious signs of injuries, and his death does not appear to be suspicious, deputies said.

The Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine cause of death.

Amons was booked after his arrest by St. Petersburg Police on drug charges.
