Pinellas Park police were able to safely take an armed suicidal man into custody Monday morning.

Police responded to the UPS distribution center at 5720 126th Avenue just after 4 a.m. to calls about a suicidal person with a weapon. The man, whose name has not been released, is an employee at UPS.

A co-worker say the man in the facility parking lot with a gun to his head and notified security, who called police. 

After about four hours, police were able to successfully get the man to drop his handgun. 

The area of 126th Avenue that had been closed by police was reopened to traffic a short time later.
