An elderly Canadian couple suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday evening when they were struck by a vehicle in Madeira Beach.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office's Major Accident Investigation Team, 81-year-old David Stempin and 78-year-old Janette Park were attempting to cross Gulf Boulevard in the crosswalk at 6:40 p.m. 

While crossing the street, Stempin and Park were struck by a 2010 Ford Fusion traveling southbound on Gulf Boulevard, driven by 79-year-old Vernon Tarrant.

Stempin and Park were transported to a local hospital by ambulance with life-threatening injuries, authorities said. 

Vernon and his wife Alice Tarrant, 73, of Cocoa Beach, were not injured. According to authorities, It does not appear that speed or impairment were factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
