A bicyclist was seriously injured in a crash Monday night in St. Petersburg.

Police said a male bicyclist was crossing 62nd Avenue North from north to south, in the west crosswalk at the intersection of 16th Street North, when he was hit by a Cadillac.

Police said the Cadillac was traveling westbound on 62nd Avenue North, with a solid green light for eastbound/westbound traffic.

Police said the bicyclist also had a solid green light and rode into the path of the oncoming Cadillac. The Cadillac struck the bike, sending the bicyclist into the windshield and over the roof of the vehicle.

Police said the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and landed on the pavement. He was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in critical condition.

The driver of the Cadillac was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
