Death threats will not deter the Raleigh man behind a Twitter account that has gone viral.

  • Logan Smith started Twitter account five years ago
  • He gained thousands of followers after Charlottesville violence
  • Smith says he has received death threats

Logan Smith runs the Twitter account titled, "Yes, You're Racist." He started it five years ago.

Now, he and members of his family are getting threatening messages. However, he says he has no plans to shut the account down.

It gained national attention and hundreds of thousands of followers once Smith started identifying those marching with torches in Charlottesville, Friday evening. 65,000 were following him last week, but since Charlottesville, he's added more than 300,000 followers.

Smith identified around a dozen men, one of whom lost his job as a result.

But with the new support, he's also gotten death threats.

"They're not afraid anymore. They are not hiding behind their hoods like they used to and if they really are so proud of their white supremacist beliefs, if they are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with KKK members and neo-Nazis then I think that their communities should know who these people are. These intimidation tactics that they use, it's what they have done since the days of the KKK, burning crosses in people's yards, making people afraid to stand up and speak out and that's how they win, but I refuse to let them do that,” said Smith.

Smith is the communications director for the political advocacy group Progress NC.
